Lot's of folks seem to have issues with the hips and IT bands from squatting wide and or just wear and tear. What are some things that can help to alieviate the symptoms and what are some ideas for prevention?

Also, do you think a build up of scar tissue in the tensor facia lata area could contribute to these types of problems as well?

Thanks for the question Thaddius.

You are 100% right most powerlifters in general have some sort of hip issues and a lot of them DO end up revolving around the IT band.

Help alievaiating and preventing the symptoms should be one in the same, in my opinion. A good plan of attack will involve some sort of soft tissues work(ART, massage, graston, etc)2-4 times a month, some self myofacial release(foam rolling) on and around the affect areas 1-75 times a day and proper exercises to help correct the issue, again structure specific and 1-75 times a day.

A build up of scar tissue anywhere will always cause problems. If I am picking up what you are putting down here, and i think i am, you are dealing with a "work place" hazard. Just like people who sit down all day and have upper back and hip flexor issues, powerlifters for "some" reason, other than squat and deadlift stance, have a lot of scar tissues in and around the medial glutes.

The idea behind the alievation and prevention plan(listed above) you should embark upon would be to tackle this(scar tissue in TFL, IT band) as well. There are definatly 'other' things to look towards as well and i am sure you have looked their way already. No problem talking about this but it might be a good idea to either start a new thread or shoot me a private message.

Hopefully that answers a lot of your question and helps steer you in the right direction. Feel free to keep this conversation going here or to drop me a message as well.
